Meadow Park, Coatbridge, Football stadium in Coatbridge, Scotland
Meadow Park was a football stadium in Coatbridge situated between two railway lines in the Whifflet area, with a grandstand and pavilion on its western side. The site later became an electrical substation, with the original pavilion structure retained during the transition.
The stadium opened in 1882 when Albion Rovers relocated from Cowheath Park to establish their home ground there. The club departed in 1919 to move to Cliftonhill.
The venue held significant matches in Scottish football, including a memorable game against Cowdenbeath that drew 4,000 spectators in January 1914.
The site sits between two active railway lines, making it well-connected but difficult to view from the surrounding area. Visitors should be aware that the location is not open to the public today and is primarily used for railway and utility operations.
The grandstand experienced two separate incidents where strong winds completely removed its roof during the stadium's operating years. These events show the challenges that early sporting grounds faced when exposed to severe weather.
