Emmanuel Baptist Church, Gothic Revival church in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, United States

Emmanuel Baptist Church is a Gothic Revival church building located at the corner of Lafayette Avenue and St. James Place in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. The exterior features pointed arches, stone cladding, and flying buttresses, while the interior retains original woodwork and decorative finishes from the same period.

The congregation formed in 1882 when a group of around 200 members split from another Baptist church in Brooklyn and established their own community. They commissioned the current building shortly after, and it was completed in 1887, becoming the permanent home of the congregation ever since.

The church sits in Clinton Hill and draws a congregation that has worshipped here for well over a century. On Sundays and during community events, the street outside fills with people, giving the building a visible role in neighborhood life.

The church stands at a clearly visible street corner in Clinton Hill and is easy to reach on foot from the surrounding blocks. Since the building is used for services and community events, it is worth checking access times before visiting.

The church has a central baptismal font from the 19th century that remains in its original state, which is rare among church buildings of that era in New York. It is part of an interior that has seen very little alteration to its decorative elements over the decades.
