Frank Ritter Memorial Ice Arena, Indoor sports arena in Henrietta, US
The Frank Ritter Memorial Ice Arena is a sports facility in Henrietta featuring a synthetic surface and total capacity for 2,100 people in seating and standing areas. Today it functions as a multipurpose athletic training and storage facility.
The facility was built in 1968 during RIT's relocation from downtown Rochester to Henrietta. It hosted five NCAA Championships before the opening of a newer venue in 2014.
The arena takes its name from Frank Ritter, a furniture maker who founded the Mechanics Institute in 1885. This naming connects the facility to Rochester's industrial past.
The facility is easily accessible from the main campus and remains available during cold months and special events. Visitors should check event schedules and note that equipment storage occupies much of the space.
After a new center opened in 2014, this arena shifted from an ice surface to a flexible training facility with permanent equipment storage. The transformation shows how athletic spaces adapt to meet changing university needs.
