Hume-Fogg High School, high school in Tennessee, United States
Hume-Fogg High School is a public high school in downtown Nashville, Tennessee, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building is a multi-story structure from the early 20th century with a stone facade, symmetrical rows of windows, and a formal entrance.
The school was founded in the early 20th century by merging two older Nashville schools, Hume School and Fogg School, into one institution. The current building opened in 1912 and has been in continuous use as a school ever since.
Hume-Fogg sits in the heart of Nashville and is a familiar landmark for many locals who pass by it on their daily commute. The stone facade and tall windows give it a presence that stands out against the modern buildings along Broadway.
Since this is an active school, access to the interior is not generally open to the public. The exterior can be seen from the street, and the location in downtown Nashville makes it easy to reach on foot from nearby hotels or attractions.
Hume-Fogg is considered one of the top academically focused public schools in the American South, admitting students from across the city based on academic performance rather than home address. The school's name joins two separate 19th-century institutions, which is why the name has an unusual double form that visitors often find puzzling at first.
