Idle Hour Stock Farm, Thoroughbred horse breeding farm in Lexington, Kentucky.
Idle Hour Stock Farm is a thoroughbred breeding facility located near Lexington that was designed to develop racing champions. The property contains multiple barns, training tracks, and open pastures spread across the countryside.
Colonel Edward R. Bradley founded the farm in 1906 and built it into a premier racing operation. Several Kentucky Derby winners emerged from the facility during the 1920s and early 1930s.
The farm brought the influential mare La Troienne from France in 1931, whose bloodline produced numerous champion horses throughout the twentieth century in North America.
The property sits north of Old Frankfort Pike and was subdivided into different sections after 1946. Today various portions operate under different names as separate breeding operations.
The Pennsylvania Railroad honored the farm by naming one of its baggage cars after it. This recognition through a rail car reflected how important the farm was to American horse racing culture.
