Hudson Waterfront, New Jersey waterfront
The Hudson Waterfront is a walking path that runs along the Hudson River through Hudson County, stretching from Bayonne to the George Washington Bridge. The route passes through Jersey City, Hoboken, West New York, and North Bergen, offering views of the Manhattan skyline throughout the journey.
The waterfront was once a busy port where ships arrived with goods and trade shaped the region's economy. In the 1980s, laws required property owners to build public paths as they redeveloped their land, which gave birth to the walkway that exists today.
The Hudson Waterfront serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors experience the river alongside the city skyline. People use it for exercise, quiet moments on benches, and sharing the space with friends, making it an important part of daily life in the area.
The path works well for walking, biking, and jogging, with bike rental stations in Jersey City and Hoboken and free kayaks available at the Hoboken Cove Boathouse from late spring through early fall. Parking is available near Liberty State Park, but many visitors prefer taking the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail or PATH trains for easier access.
Liberty State Park holds the old Central Railroad of New Jersey terminal from 1889 and several art installations and memorials. A 24-meter sculpture called Water's Soul sits at the water's edge and offers a striking experience that many visitors pass by.
