John Harrington Stevens House

The John Harrington Stevens House is a Greek Revival residence with symmetrical proportions and classical architectural details built in the 1850s. The wood-frame structure now sits within Minnehaha Park as a preserved historical building open to visitors.

Built in 1850, it was the first authorized residence on the west bank of the Mississippi River in this area. The house marks the beginning of organized settlement that would develop into the city of Minneapolis.

The house served as a gathering place where early settlers founded the city's first official institutions. It became the center for organizing local governance and community administration in the new settlement.
