Highland Park Tower
Highland Park Tower, Water tower in Highland Park, Saint Paul, Minnesota, US
The Highland Park Tower features an octagonal shape with a brick and stone structure rising 127 feet above the Highland Park neighborhood of Saint Paul.
Clarence W. Wigington, the first African-American municipal architect in the United States, designed this water tower, which was constructed in 1928 for $69,483.
The tower's Mediterranean Revival architecture incorporates carved stone shields, decorative downspouts, and lion-head relief sculptures throughout its exterior surfaces.
Visitors can climb 151 steps to reach the observation deck during Highland Fest and the second weekend of October for views of Saint Paul.
The structure held 200,000 gallons of water in its steel tank and supplied approximately 9,000 homes until its decommissioning in 2017.
