Judge C. R. Magney State Park, State park in Cook County, Minnesota.
Judge C. R. Magney is a state park in Cook County in northern Minnesota, along the North Shore of Lake Superior. Multiple trails lead through forested terrain to waterfalls that plunge over rock formations.
The park was created in 1957 to honor Clarence R. Magney, who served as mayor of Duluth and later as a judge on the Minnesota Supreme Court. The land was gradually expanded to protect river courses and shoreline landscape.
The name honors a judge who worked to protect shoreline areas along the lake. Trails wind through dense forests of spruce and birch that change colors in autumn.
The main entrance is located on East Highway 61 and is accessible from May through October. Trails to the waterfalls are mostly paved but can become slippery after rain.
The Devil's Kettle splits into two streams, with one vanishing into a hole in the rock. For years scientists tried to trace where the water flows using dyes.
