Kinkaid Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area

Kinkaid Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area is a large protected region featuring a substantial lake surrounded by forests and diverse habitats spread across thousands of acres. The water is deep in places and the shoreline offers various access points and natural features along its length.

State authorities established this conservation area in 1968 to protect local ecosystems and support recreation for the surrounding communities. The creation reflects mid-century efforts to preserve important natural areas and manage fish and wildlife resources.

A state record hybrid crappie was caught here in 2017, reaching an uncommon size for this species. This catch demonstrates that the waters support exceptional fish populations with unusual growth potential.
