Long Creek Academy, onderwijsinstelling in South Carolina, Verenigde Staten van Amerika
Long Creek Academy is a school founded by the Beaverdam Baptist Association in 1914 in South Carolina's mountain region. The main building is a two-story wooden structure in an L-shape with a porch supported by four brick columns, while the Sullivan Building completed in 1917 is also two stories and contains 24 rooms with eight brick chimneys.
The school opened in 1914 as a Baptist mission to serve rural mountain communities and later educated hundreds of students who pursued ministry or community roles. After the Baptists withdrew in 1931, Luther Henry Raines operated it as an independent school until it ceased regular operations in 1956.
The buildings are privately owned, so visitors cannot usually enter them and should view the structures from the outside. Visit during daylight hours when the architecture is most visible and you can explore the surrounding area near the Chattooga River.
A notable detail is the original fanlight window at the entrance of the main building, showing the fine craftsmanship of the era. Below the property, Raines Mill was built in 1914 with a metal wheel standing nearly 40 feet tall that generated electricity for the school at night.
