Middle Village, Residential neighborhood in Queens, US
Middle Village is a residential neighborhood in Queens with single-family homes, apartment buildings, and tree-lined streets in the central area between Metropolitan Avenue and the Long Island Expressway. The area has a traditional neighborhood layout with mixed housing.
The neighborhood began in 1816 as a stopping point between Williamsburg and Jamaica along what was then the Williamsburgh and Jamaica Turnpike, now called Metropolitan Avenue. It grew from this transport route into an established residential area.
The neighborhood shows strong Polish and Italian influences that you can see in the ethnic restaurants and shops along the main streets. These communities have shaped how the area looks and feels today.
The area connects to public transportation through multiple bus routes and offers access to the M train at Metropolitan Avenue Station. The good transit connections make it easy to travel and reach other parts of Queens.
The Lutheran All Faiths Cemetery contains a memorial for victims of the 1904 General Slocum steamboat disaster and is the burial site of notable individuals. This cemetery is a quiet place with significant meaning for the local community.
