Forest Park, Urban park in Queens, New York, US
Forest Park is an urban park in Queens between Richmond Hill and Kew Gardens with 218 hectares (538 acres) of woodland and rolling hills. Paths lead through recreational areas and natural zones where oak trees grow and old ponds sit.
The city government under Mayor Abram Hewitt founded this park in 1895 while preserving natural terrain. Part of the area already consisted of cemetery land that passed into public ownership.
The George Seuffert Sr. Bandshell serves as a gathering spot for music events during warm months, drawing families from nearby neighborhoods. Playgrounds and picnic areas fill with people from Queens on weekends who come together and spend time outdoors.
Several entrances along Park Lane South, Myrtle Avenue, and Metropolitan Avenue allow access from different sides. Parking lots sit near main facilities and make arrival easier for visitors with cars.
On 67 hectares (165 acres) native trees grow, including oak forests that have stood here for centuries. Some shallow ponds formed through glacier movements thousands of years ago and remain visible today.
