Public School 66, sekolah negeri di Amerika Syarikat
Public School 66 is a three-story brick building at the corner of 102nd Street and 85th Avenue in Queens, featuring rounded arches around windows and heavy stone walls. The structure includes a side tower with a belfry, slate roof, decorative stucco bands, stone foundations, and gabled dormer windows that reflect late 19th-century Romanesque architecture.
The school was designed in 1898 by architect C. B. J. Snyder, a prolific designer of New York City schools, and opened in 1901 as educational enrollment grew in the area. In the early 1900s, a significant extension added more classrooms and an auditorium to accommodate the expanding community.
The building serves as a symbol of how education shaped Richmond Hill as the neighborhood grew from farmland into a residential community. Its role in teaching immigrant children, including Italian, German, and Irish families, remains central to its identity in the area.
The building sits prominently at a street corner and is easily visible from the public sidewalk, recognizable by its red brick and distinctive tower. The area around the school is accessible by public transportation, and pedestrians can view the exterior architecture clearly from the street without disruption to school operations.
The tower originally housed a working bell used to call students to class, and the building contained residential rooms for school staff heated by fireplaces and coal-burning furnaces. In 2010, it was officially designated a New York City landmark following a request from Caroline Kennedy, daughter of President John F. Kennedy.
