Moncove Lake State Park

Moncove Lake State Park is a nature preserve in West Virginia with a 144-acre lake surrounded by forests. The grounds feature hiking trails, a swimming pool, and boat rentals for visitors exploring the Appalachian region.

Construction of the lake began in 1960 when a dam was built across Devil Creek in this mountain valley. The official state park designation came later, opening the area to the public in 1990.

The park sits beneath an important bird migration corridor, and birdwatchers come here to observe native species in their natural habitat.

The park operates 48 campsites with 25 offering electrical connections for recreational vehicles and tents. Visitors should plan according to the season, as trail and water conditions vary throughout the year.

All motorboats on the lake must stay under 5 horsepower, a rule designed to minimize noise and pollution in the water. This restriction makes the lake an unusually quiet spot for those seeking water activities in a natural setting.
