NX Bridge, Railway bridge on Passaic River in Newark, United States.
NX Bridge is a railway crossing with movable sections that connects Newark and Kearny across the Passaic River. The two lifting sections can raise upward to allow boats and barges to pass underneath the tracks.
The bridge was built in 1922 by Erie Railroad as a double-track structure serving the Newark Branch. Operations continued until 1977 when Conrail discontinued service along this route.
The bridge gained attention in 1982 when filmmakers painted it black with silver rails for the movie Annie. This appearance led to an alternate name that stuck among film enthusiasts.
Access to the bridge is limited since it is privately owned and operated by Norfolk Southern Railway. The best viewing points are from nearby streets or from the riverbanks adjacent to the crossing.
The bridge remains in a permanently raised position even though its lifting mechanisms no longer operate. This fixed elevation is a remnant from the era when regular boat traffic moved through the river.
