The Clay Street Bridge spans across the Passaic River, connecting the communities of Newark and East Newark with a length of 328 feet.

The bridge, constructed by A.E. Sanford Company and designed by J. Owen, opened in 1908 to improve transportation infrastructure in New Jersey.

The original mechanical components of the Clay Street Bridge are now exhibited at the Newark Museum, preserving the engineering heritage.

The bridge requires a four-hour notice for drawbridge operations and provides clearance of 16.7 feet above and 6.9 feet below at low tide.

The eastern section of the bridge connects to the Clark Thread Company Historic District, while the western end reaches Newark's Lower Broadway neighborhood.
