Munising Front Range Light, Steel lighthouse in Munising, United States
Munising Front Range Light is a steel lighthouse standing on the southern shore of Lake Superior near Munising, Michigan. The white conical tower reaches 18 meters tall and features an octagonal lantern room with a surrounding gallery.
This lighthouse was built in 1908 to replace the earlier Grand Island Harbor Lighthouse. The steel structure became part of the region's system for guiding vessels through the harbor channels.
The lighthouse represents the maritime heritage of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, where navigation structures guided vessels through the channels of Lake Superior.
The lighthouse sits at the corner of Highway 28 and Hemlock Street, making it easy to locate from the road. Its position offers views of the waterfront and the harbor entrance where it continues to guide vessel traffic.
This lighthouse works together with a rear tower located on a hillside further inland. The two lights create an aligned beam system that helps captains navigate precisely into the harbor.
