Laughing Whitefish Falls Scenic Site, Natural waterfall in Alger County, Michigan, United States
The waterfall drops 30 feet down limestone cliffs, creating a cascade formation within a forest of white pine and hemlock trees.
The falls became a designated Michigan state park during the mid-20th century to preserve its natural geological formations and surrounding wilderness.
The name of the falls combines the sound of rushing water with the presence of whitefish, reflecting the natural elements of the Upper Peninsula.
Three observation platforms connect through a half-mile trail system, requiring visitors to traverse 157 steps to reach the lower viewing areas.
During winter months, the water freezes into natural ice formations, transforming the falls into vertical columns of crystallized water.
