The National Shrine of the North American Martyrs encompasses 600 acres of grounds with a circular church building that accommodates 6,000 worshippers.
Three Jesuit missionaries faced execution at this location, formerly known as Ossernenon, during the 1640s while attempting to establish Catholic missions.
The shrine stands as a memorial to Saint Kateri Tekakwitha, recognized as the first Native American saint within the Roman Catholic Church.
The shrine maintains regular operations through October 19th, offering daily masses, religious ceremonies, and guided visits for individual and group pilgrimages.
The coliseum structure, built in 1930, represents one of the earliest circular church designs constructed in the United States.
