North Platte Canteen, World War II service station in North Platte, United States.

The North Platte Canteen was a service location at the Union Pacific Railroad station where soldiers passing by train received meals and drinks. Volunteers worked during brief train stops to help as many servicemen as possible in just a few minutes.

The facility opened after the attack on Pearl Harbor and served soldiers throughout the entire Second World War. It closed in 1946 after military transport through the region ended.

Women from more than a hundred Nebraska communities came together to welcome soldiers with homemade cakes and warm meals. This volunteer movement showed how local residents supported troops passing through their region.

Visitors should understand that the site is historical and may not have modern amenities. The best time to visit is during regular hours when local museums or monuments in the area are open.

Local communities ensured this service remained completely free by funding it entirely through resident donations. No government money was used for the food and drinks distributed to passing soldiers.
