Philadelphia's Magic Gardens
Philadelphia's Magic Gardens, Folk art environment and mosaic gallery in South Street, Philadelphia, United States.
The gallery spans three city lots with indoor spaces and outdoor labyrinths decorated with thousands of colorful tiles, glass bottles, and found objects.
In 1994, artist Isaiah Zagar transformed two vacant lots into an immersive art installation, which opened to the public as Philadelphia's Magic Gardens in 2008.
The mosaics incorporate artistic elements from Latin America, India, Morocco, Iran, China, and Indonesia, reflecting Zagar's international travels and influences.
The gallery welcomes visitors Wednesday through Monday from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM at 1020 South Street, with guided tours and mosaic workshops available.
The space contains 3,000 square feet of mosaicked passages that weave both above and underground, incorporating bicycle wheels, ceramic shards, and kitchen tiles.
