Popcorn Park Zoo

Popcorn Park Zoo is an animal sanctuary spanning about 7 acres that houses more than 200 animals including tigers, lions, bears, and monkeys. The grounds feature walking paths that allow visitors to observe and get close to the residents.

The facility started in 1977 with the rescue of an injured raccoon and gradually grew to accommodate various species in need of care. Over time it became a haven for animals with different backgrounds and circumstances.

The facility demonstrates commitment to animal welfare by providing rehabilitation services and permanent homes for animals that experienced mistreatment or injuries.

The facility is open daily to visitors who can explore at their own pace on walking paths. Special beach wheelchairs are available to help navigate the sandy terrain throughout the grounds.

The name comes from a popcorn stand that once operated on the grounds and became linked to the rescue work. This unusual origin shows how a simple detail became part of the facility's identity.
