Ocean County Courthouse

Ocean County Courthouse is a county court building in Toms River featuring six Doric columns supporting a prominent portico with a triangular pediment. Two additional wings were later added to accommodate expanded judicial operations.

Construction began in 1850 and was completed the following year, marking an important moment in Ocean County's judicial infrastructure. The building earned recognition as a historic place in 1983.

The design embodies 19th-century ideals where public buildings expressed democratic values through classical forms. The columned portico signals authority and justice to visitors approaching the entrance.

The courthouse sits downtown on Washington Street in Toms River and is accessible by car or on foot from nearby areas. Check building hours before visiting, as it remains an active judicial facility with restricted public access to courtrooms.
