Plumb Memorial Library
Plumb Memorial Library, Public library in Shelton, Connecticut.
Plumb Memorial Library is a public library building at 65 Wooster Street designed in the Richardsonian Romanesque style with distinctive features from the late 1800s. The structure houses a collection of more than 130,000 volumes available to visitors and members of the community.
Construction of the building took place in 1895 under architect Charles T. Beardsley Jr. and the structure gained National Register of Historic Places status in 1978. The site was established on land given by the widow of David Wells Plumb.
The library functions as a community hub where visitors regularly gather for reading events and book discussions that reflect local interests. These programs bring together people who share a passion for literature and local knowledge.
The library connects to a broader network of Connecticut public libraries through its automation system, allowing visitors to access resources from multiple locations. The central location on Wooster Street makes it accessible and staff can help guide you through the collection.
A major expansion in 1975 doubled the size of the original building and allowed the library to grow its services for the community. This modernization showed the town's commitment to keeping the institution relevant for years to come.
