Purdue Memorial Union, Student union building at Purdue University, West Lafayette, United States.
Purdue Memorial Union is a multi-story building on the campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, housing two large ballrooms, a hotel section, several dining venues, and many office and meeting rooms. It is one of the largest student union complexes in the US, combining lodging, food service, and administrative spaces all under one roof.
The building opened in 1924 as a memorial for university students who served and died in World War I, after the university had been raising funds since 1912. Over the following decades it was expanded several times to meet the growing needs of campus life.
The Great Hall stands out with its stone arches, stained glass windows, and a black and gold cross set into the floor. This central space works as a meeting point for students, staff, and visitors on campus.
The ground floor has several dining spots and cafes open throughout the day, making it a convenient stop for a meal or a drink. The upper levels are clearly marked and accessible, so finding your way around is straightforward.
A bowling alley built in the 1930s is still operating in the basement and is open to students and visitors. The building also displays a detailed scale model of the entire Purdue campus, showing how the university has grown over the decades.
