Former Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity House

The Former Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity House is a Tudor Revival structure featuring decorative half-timbering, steeply pitched gable roofs, and detailed craftwork that define its appearance on campus. The building occupies the corner of Fourth and Russell Streets in West Lafayette.

The building was constructed in 1920 after the Debonair Club evolved into the Gamma Omicron chapter of Alpha Tau Omega earlier in the 1900s. In recent years it was converted into student housing rather than demolished.

The house reflects how fraternities shaped their physical spaces to express belonging and community identity during the early 1900s. You can see how the building's style communicated the group's values to other students on campus.
