Robbins & Appleton Building
Robbins & Appleton Building, Second Empire industrial building in NoHo, Manhattan, United States.
The Robbins & Appleton Building at Bond Street is a six-story structure featuring a cast iron facade and blue mansard roof in Second Empire style. It now contains residential units and commercial spaces, including an art supply store.
The current building was constructed in 1880 following a major fire that destroyed the previous structure at this site in March 1877. It was quickly rebuilt and continued serving industrial purposes for decades.
The building reflects how industrial neighborhoods in Manhattan have shifted to mixed-use communities with residential and commercial activity. Today artists and retailers occupy the spaces, showing how the location continues to attract creative and business ventures.
The location sits in an active neighborhood with multiple transit options nearby, making it easy to reach. Nearby shops, restaurants, and attractions create a convenient hub for exploring the area.
The building once housed manufacturing operations for watch cases by American Waltham Company, whose timepieces gained recognition through significant historical events. The precision craftsmanship practiced here contributed to the reputation of quality products that gained worldwide respect.
