Building at 376-380 Lafayette Street

The building at Lafayette Street is a six-story structure of brownstone, sandstone, and terra-cotta with marble columns adorning its facade. The structure combines industrial strength with decorative architectural details.

William C. Schermerhorn commissioned architect Henry Hardenbergh to build this between 1888 and 1889 on the site of his former mansion. The project marked a shift from residential to commercial use in Manhattan.
