DeVinne Press Building, Commercial building in NoHo, Manhattan, United States.
The DeVinne Press Building is a commercial structure in NoHo with thick masonry walls, elaborate brickwork, and a red brick facade adorned with terra cotta ornaments. The building spans from 393 to 399 Lafayette Street and is complemented by a seamlessly integrated 1891 annex on East Fourth Street.
The structure was built between 1885 and 1886 by the architectural firm Babb, Cook & Willard and served as a printing facility until 1922. After that, it was converted for various commercial uses while retaining its original facade and character.
The building once housed a prestigious printing operation that produced literary magazines and reference works for educated readers. This role shaped the neighborhood and made the location a center for publishing and print craftsmanship.
The building sits at the corner of Lafayette Street and East 4th Street and is easy to reach on foot. The ground floors are open to public businesses today, while upper levels house private office spaces.
The 1891 annex built on East Fourth Street matches the original design so precisely that it appears as one unified structure. This seamless expansion demonstrates the craftsmanship of that era.
