Rockwood Lodge, Event venue in Brown County, Wisconsin, US
Rockwood Lodge was a cross-shaped stone and timber structure with 40 rooms situated on a limestone bluff. The property spread across 53 acres with sweeping views toward Green Bay and Lake Michigan.
The building was constructed in 1937 as a retreat for the Norbertine Order and later became the first self-contained training facility for the Green Bay Packers professional football team. A fire in January 1950 destroyed the entire structure.
The cross-shaped stone and timber building was designed to bring people together for gatherings and shared activities. The layout encouraged community members to gather in common spaces for both spiritual and social purposes.
The grounds today operate as Bay Shore Park with hiking trails, picnic areas, and boating facilities open year-round. Wear sturdy shoes since the paths traverse the rocky limestone terrain.
After the devastating fire, only the stone walls and a single chimney remained standing, still visible today on the grounds. The insurance proceeds from that loss later helped stabilize the financial situation of the Green Bay Packers organization.
