Shenango River Lake

Shenango River Lake, body of water

Shenango River Lake is a reservoir in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, covering about 3,500 acres with a winding shoreline. The water is home to fish like Walleye, Largemouth Bass, and Crappie, and offers six boat ramps for launching vessels, with trails that run along the edge for hiking and walking.

The reservoir was built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to control floods in nearby river systems and protect surrounding towns including Hermitage and Greenville from heavy water flows. Over the years it has served its primary function of safeguarding the region during storms and heavy rainfall.

The lake serves as a gathering place for local fishermen and boaters who visit regularly to spend their leisure time on the water. The 10-horsepower motor limit reflects the community's preference for quiet recreation and wildlife watching over speed-focused activities.

Visitors can walk on well-maintained trails and explore the shoreline easily, with multiple picnic areas and campgrounds available for day trips or overnight stays. The motor size limit keeps the water calm and less congested, making it easier to navigate and find quiet spots.

Submerged trees and rocks throughout the lake create natural hiding spots for fish, making it a favored destination for experienced anglers who know where to cast their lines. These underwater structures are not immediately visible but provide excellent opportunities for patient fishermen seeking good catches.
