The Dr. Peter Allen House features symmetrical design elements, classical details, and original wooden fittings that define early 19th-century American residential construction.
Built in 1821 by architect Willis Smith for Kinsman's first medical doctor, the house required an investment of 3,000 dollars on land purchased at 2 dollars per acre.
The preservation efforts during the Great Depression led to the documentation of the structure by the Works Progress Administration and its addition to the Library of Congress in 1938.
The property now functions as the Peter Allen Inn & Event Center, offering accommodations and serving as a venue for weddings, corporate retreats, and local gatherings.
The parlor woodwork was temporarily relocated to Cleveland homes in 1903 through negotiations by Dr. Dudley Allen, before being returned to its original location fifty years later.
