Toboggan, Steel roller coaster in Conneaut Lake Park, Pennsylvania.
The Toboggan is a steel roller coaster at Conneaut Lake Park featuring a vertical climb inside a hollow steel tower followed by a spiraling descent around the same structure. The track extends approximately 450 feet (137 meters) and reaches a height of about 45 feet (14 meters), with each complete ride lasting roughly 70 seconds.
This coaster was manufactured by Chance Industries and originally came from Texas to Pennsylvania. It operated at the park from 2002 to 2006 and was eventually dismantled in 2014.
The ride represents a generation of compact steel coasters that brought new thrills to smaller amusement parks across the country.
Visitors should expect a brief but intense ride given the compact design and tight spiral movement. It helps to observe the coaster in action before boarding to understand the experience better.
Each car uses a single rubber tire with a hydraulic clutch brake that controls descent by engaging a center rail partway through the spiral. This unusual mechanism allows the ride to slow down gradually during the spiral descent rather than relying on traditional friction brakes.
