Sacred Heart Church, Catholic church building in Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan serving the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York community since 1876.
The Sacred Heart Church displays Victorian Romanesque architecture designed by Napoleon LeBrun & Sons, featuring deep red brick masonry with terracotta trim and light-colored stone arches throughout its symmetrical facade.
Construction began in 1884 with the cornerstone laid on July 23rd, and the church was dedicated on May 17, 1885 by Archbishop Michael A. Corrigan during an official ceremony.
The church became the first in the Archdiocese of New York to undergo post-conciliar architectural reconfiguration in 1966 following Second Vatican Council reforms to enhance parishioner engagement.
Located at 457 West 51st Street in Manhattan, the church remains accessible via public transportation and continues operating regular masses and community programs under current pastor Rev. Lorenzo Ato.
Sacred Heart Church maintains an adjacent school building at 456 West 52nd Street, creating an educational complex that has served multiple generations of local families since its establishment.
