Silk Covered Bridge, Covered bridge in Bennington, US.
The Silk Covered Bridge is a wooden structure with vertical board siding that carries traffic across the Walloomsac River between downtown Bennington and North Bennington. Its interior features the timber framework typical of its construction period.
Benjamin Sears designed this lattice truss bridge in 1840 using proven construction methods of that era. The northern stone abutment remains as part of the original structure.
The National Register of Historic Places recognized the bridge's architectural significance by listing it on August 28, 1973, preserving its nineteenth-century engineering methods.
The bridge is reached via Silk Road, which connects local traffic routes in the area. Its single-lane design means drivers need to pass carefully when meeting oncoming traffic.
A major storm in 2011 caused damage to the structure, but restoration work brought it back to safe condition. The repairs maintained its historical character while making it secure for travel.
