Southern District Police Station, Gefängnis in den Vereinigten Staaten
The Southern District Police Station is a police building from 1896 located at the corner of East Ostend and Patapsco streets in Baltimore, showcasing Romanesque Revival architecture. The three-story main structure of stone and brick was later expanded with additional sections and originally held offices, interrogation rooms, and holding cells.
The building was designed in 1896 by architect Jackson Coale Gott and served the Baltimore Police Department as a station until around 1985. Two wings were added in the 1950s, and in 2001 the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
The building sits at the corner of East Ostend Street and is easy to locate in the area. Visitors can view the solid brick architecture and historic details of the exterior from the street.
Old bullet holes remain visible on the walls of what was once a shooting gallery inside the station, marking the building's active police history. These physical traces serve as silent reminders of the training and work that took place there.
