Starkweather Hall, Religious center at Eastern Michigan University, United States
Starkweather Hall is a two-story building at Eastern Michigan University built with squared fieldstone walls and topped with an octagonal sandstone tower. The structure displays Richardsonian Romanesque architecture and currently houses the Graduate Office.
The building was constructed in 1896 thanks to a substantial donation from Mary Ann Starkweather and remains the oldest structure on the campus. Its creation marked an early phase of university expansion and institutional growth.
The building served as a gathering place for student religious organizations and faith-based groups for many decades. Its role as a spiritual center shaped how students experienced campus life during that time.
The building sits on the campus at West Forest Avenue in Ypsilanti with much of its original construction still visible. Visitors can walk around the exterior to view the stonework and tower details that define its character.
The building features custom hardware and metalwork created specifically for its original construction. Many of these handcrafted original pieces remain in place after multiple renovations over the years.
