Superior Dam

Description

Superior Dam is a hydroelectric structure that spans the Huron River in Washtenaw County with a length of roughly 150 meters and a height of approximately 11 meters. The installation creates a reservoir covering about 42 hectares of water surface.

History

Detroit Edison Company constructed this facility in 1919 to generate electricity from flowing water. Ann Arbor took over the structure in 1963 after it ceased its original power-producing function.

Local anglers regularly fish these waters for bass, catfish, and northern pike. The location serves as a meeting point for people who enjoy outdoor activities along the river.
