Tenley Campus, University campus in Tenleytown, United States.
Tenley Campus is a university facility belonging to American University, located in the Tenleytown neighborhood of Northwest Washington DC. The site groups several buildings around Tenley Circle, containing classrooms, a law library, courtrooms, and office spaces.
From 1904 to 2006, the Sisters of Providence ran educational institutions on this land, including a seminary. American University then acquired the property to house their law school.
The campus still has buildings from the Sisters of Providence era, now used as classrooms and offices by law students and faculty. Walking through the grounds, visitors notice the contrast between the older brick structures and the newer additions.
The campus is one block from the AU-Tenleytown Metro Station, so it is easy to reach by public transit. Once there, the buildings are compact and grouped together, making it straightforward to walk from one to another.
The former seminary chapel on the grounds was converted into a courthouse and now holds the Stephen S. Weinstein Courtroom alongside two practice courtrooms. Law students argue cases in a space that was originally built for religious ceremonies.
