Travilah Oak

The Travilah Oak is a white oak tree located at Potomac Oak Shopping Center where Travilah Road and Glen Road meet. The tree is protected by structural supports, nighttime lighting, and lightning rods installed for its preservation.

This white oak began growing more than 285 years ago and has witnessed the area's transformation from colonial settlements through American independence to modern times. It represents a living connection to centuries of regional development and change.

The annual Travilah Oak Celebration features hay rides, horse demonstrations, traditional music, scarecrow building, and pumpkin decorating contests for the local community.

The tree is located at a shopping center, making it easily accessible by car. Plan to visit during quieter times such as early morning or late afternoon for a more peaceful experience.

This oak was recognized as the Champion White Oak of Montgomery County and is being considered for Maryland's state tree designation. The recognition highlights its importance as a rare botanical specimen in the region.
