United States Naval Academy Museum, Maritime museum at Naval Academy in Annapolis, United States.
The United States Naval Academy Museum houses collections on two floors with exhibits about naval history, maritime operations, and military developments across several centuries. The spaces contain ship models, historical navigational instruments, uniforms, and personal items from naval officers.
The collection started in 1845 with the founding of the Naval School and gathered artifacts from international naval expeditions and military campaigns. The holdings grew during wars as captured pieces and naval salvage from ships involved in sea battles were added.
The exhibits show how naval warfare developed through ship models, maritime equipment, medals, weapons, and documents from different naval conflicts. Visitors can see how shipbuilding and combat tactics changed over the centuries.
Visitors must present valid photo identification at Gate 1 to enter the Academy grounds, with museum access available Monday through Saturday. It is advisable to arrive early in the day to avoid crowds and have more time for exploring.
The museum holds the largest collection of naval ship models in North America with detailed reproductions of vessels from the 17th through 20th centuries. Some of these models were built for teaching purposes at the Academy and show how ships functioned through their internal construction.
