Whitewater Memorial State Park, State park in Liberty, Indiana, United States.
Whitewater Memorial State Park is a state park in eastern Indiana, built around a lake surrounded by forest, with trails for hiking and horseback riding. The terrain mixes wooded hills and open meadows, and the lake allows non-motorized boating and fishing.
The park opened in 1949 after four neighboring counties pooled resources to buy the land for it. It was the 16th area to join the Indiana State Park system.
The park is named in memory of soldiers from the region who died in World War II. Visitors can encounter commemorative markers along the trails that make this connection visible.
The park offers camping spots for tents, RVs, and equestrian visitors, making it easy to plan an overnight stay. The grounds are spread out, so picking up a map at the entrance helps with finding the different areas.
Along the Red Springs Loop Trail, visitors come across mineral springs that flow into a creek and leave visible color patterns in the water. These springs sit inside the Hornbeam Nature Preserve, a protected area within the park that many visitors walk past without realizing it.
