Willson's Woods Park, County park in Mount Vernon, New York
Willson's Woods Park is a 23-acre recreation area in Mount Vernon featuring a large swimming pool, waterpark, and walking trails along Pelham Lake. The park includes several picnic areas and pathways that wind through the green space.
The park was acquired in 1924 and named after Charles Hill Willson, whose family previously owned the land and worked in the lumber business. Its conversion to public use transformed this location into a community center.
The park is a community gathering place where families and friends meet at picnic tables and groups use the pavilion for celebrations. People come here to spend time outdoors and enjoy the water.
The park is open daily from morning until dusk and visitors should bring a park pass or valid New York state identification. Facilities are easily reached on foot and the lake is visible from multiple points throughout the grounds.
The lake is the only natural lake in Mount Vernon and attracts over 50 bird species, with large flocks of Canada Geese and Mallards often visible. Birdwatching is particularly popular here, especially during migration seasons when even more varieties appear.
