Mount Lafayette, Mountain summit in White Mountains, New Hampshire, US

Mount Lafayette is a 5,256 ft (1,603 m) peak and the highest point of the Franconia Range in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. The mountain sits within Franconia Notch State Park and offers access via multiple established hiking trails.

The mountain was named after General Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette, who supported the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. This naming reflects the historical ties between early America and French allies.

The Greenleaf Hut near the summit provides shelter and serves as a gathering point for hikers crossing the ridge. This hut system reflects how communities support mountain travel in the White Mountains.

The mountain can be reached via the Old Bridle Path and Greenleaf Trail, which start from different parking areas in Franconia Notch State Park. Both routes offer varying difficulty levels and distances suitable for different fitness levels.

The summit marks the western boundary of the Pemigewasset Wilderness Area and sits where the Garfield Ridge and Franconia Ridge trails meet. This location makes it a key junction for long-distance hikers exploring these two notable ridge systems.
