St. Mary's Catholic Church
St. Mary's Catholic Church, Gothic Revival Catholic church in downtown Memphis, United States.
The stone church features pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and twin towers that extend upward from its symmetrical facade at 155 Market Street.
Constructed in 1870 under architect James B. Cook's direction, St. Mary's Catholic Church obtained National Register of Historic Places status in 1974.
The congregation established Tennessee's first parochial high school in 1887 and introduced evening classes for working adults two years later.
St. Mary's Catholic Church maintains regular Sunday services at 10:30 AM and opens its doors for community programs throughout the week.
German craftsmen created the interior wooden altars, while Franciscan brothers built the pews and ornate confessional during the church's early years.
