Menomonee, Steel sculpture in Menomonee Valley, Milwaukee, US.
Menomonee is a steel sculpture in the valley and consists of metal beams welded together at different angles to form an abstract horizontal composition. It sits on a concrete base and is marked with an identifying plaque at its location.
Hilary Goldblatt created this work in 1985 on the grounds of a meat packing company. The site later became integrated into the Cargill Sculpture Park, giving the piece a new home within a larger art collection.
The work reflects the valley's industrial past through its bold steel form, which speaks to generations of manufacturing and factory work in this area. Visitors walking past can sense how the material choice connects to the neighborhood's working heritage.
The sculpture sits at the corner of West Canal Street and South Emmber Lane, making it easy to locate and visit. The surrounding park area is worth exploring at the same time since the piece is positioned within the broader grounds.
Goldblatt first worked out the composition at smaller scale before creating the full-sized version visible today. This approach reveals how artists carefully test their geometric designs to ensure every angle and joint works as intended.
