Millender Center Apartments, High-rise residential complex in downtown Detroit, United States
Millender Center is a residential high-rise with 33 floors of apartments situated in downtown Detroit as part of a larger mixed-use development. The building features retail spaces and hotels within its structure, alongside a People Mover station that operates inside the complex.
The complex was completed in 1985 and named after Robert L. Millender, a Detroit attorney who played a role in the city's development initiatives. Substantial public investment supported the construction of this downtown project during that era.
The pottery mural by Detroit artist Alvin Loving Jr at the station level reflects the city's commitment to displaying local art in public spaces. You can see this artwork displayed near the People Mover stop integrated into the complex.
Multiple skyway bridges connect this building to nearby structures, making it easy to move through downtown without going outside. The integrated People Mover station provides straightforward access to public transit within the building itself.
The construction teams used prefabricated building components to work quickly, assembling roughly one entire floor every two days during the project. This approach to construction was notably efficient for the building techniques available at that time.
