Beacon Theatre, Historic theater in Hopewell, United States
The Beacon Theatre is a three-story theater building in Hopewell featuring classical plaster friezes and cast-stone details. Decorative bands of flush brickwork run throughout the structure, creating visual interest in the exterior and interior spaces.
The theater was built in 1928 by architects Osbert L. Edwards and Fred Bishop and served as both a vaudeville stage and movie house for decades. It closed in 1981 before being brought back to use in later years.
The building displays Colonial Revival and Art Deco details that you can see in the decorations and finishes throughout. These styles shape how visitors experience the spaces during events and gatherings.
The building is open for various events including concerts, weddings, and corporate gatherings in multiple spaces throughout. The different ballrooms and concert settings each offer their own character for different occasions.
The theater reopened in 2014 after major renovations with a sold-out concert by Leon Russell marking the start of its new era. This performance became a significant moment in the building's comeback to active use.
