Lefferts Manor Historic District

Lefferts Manor Historic District is a residential area with roughly 667 buildings including stone and brick rowhouses, wooden frame structures, and garages spread across the neighborhood. The buildings are located between Lincoln Road, Fenimore Street, Rogers Avenue, and Flatbush Avenue.

James Lefferts began developing this neighborhood in 1896 as a residential subdivision, followed by construction of more than 500 homes between 1905 and 1911. This building period shaped the district with the architectural styles that remain visible today.

The district displays housing styles from the late 1800s through the early 1900s that residents maintain with care throughout the neighborhood. Strict local rules ensure that the area keeps its original character from that period.

The best way to explore the neighborhood is on foot, since the streets are laid out on a smaller scale with many details to observe along the way. Sidewalks run throughout the area, making it easy to walk around.

Among the residential buildings sits a maintained garden site on Maple Street that provides green space in the heart of the neighborhood. This garden contribution shows how private green areas were woven into the residential design.
